Description

This module examines how China-related issues have been dealt with by major powers from the late 19th century until today, focusing on several salient turning points of history. It also considers China's diplomatic initiatives and pays specific attention to the Korean question, which has been a major focus of conflict and cooperation between China and other powers. It will introduce relevant theories of foreign policy analysis, including inter-cultural approaches, and apply these to the analysis of the international systems in which China and Korea have worked, including balance of power, open door, imperialism, containment, detente, and constructive engagement.
